Climb The String
(with a Clockwise Sun intro)
see Flash Movie Controls

1) Get the diabolo spinning as fast as you can and do a Clockwise Sun.

( Note: A nice way to get lots of spin and do a Clockwise Sun is the CW Sun Power Thrust.)

2) Point the left stick right and hang the diabolo off to your right. Note: you are raching rightward, pointing your left stick so it is right of the right stick.

3) Bending at the knees, Lift the left stick up as you lower the right stick. The right stick's end should be pointed at the diabolo axle. The string should now be vertical. Note: As your right stick lowers, it is passing the diabolo between your right side and the diabolo.

4) Hold the left stick high and still. Pull down with the right stick to tighten the string so the wrap on the axle causes the diabolo to 'climb.'

5) Keep the tension even so the diabolo climbs to the left stick. Too much tension will slow the diabolo and waste its spin.

6) After reaching the left stick the diabolo will come down the other side of the string if you circle under the diabolo with the left stick's end. This movement must be done quickly as a CC circle all the way around to above the diabolo.

7) Actually the diabolo now falls down the vertical string toward the right stick. The right stick needs to be moved right slightly to catch the diabolo. After catching, even the sticks out to the normal position, and the diabolo should be on open string.

Dixloos Elevator
(Climb The String from an 'opposite' Half Spaghetti start.)

source unknown

1. Get the diablo spinning quite fast.

2. Do the opposite of a Half Spaghetti. (The directions for this is below 2a, 2b, & 2c.)

2a. Put your left stick horizontal.
2b. Loop the right stick's string over the left stick.
2c. Then loop the string under the diablo from the left.

3. Pull the string tight and tilt it vertical with the right stick closer to the ground.

4. Unloop the string and hold the left strick high.

5. Tighten the string, the diabolo should rise, and you're done.

Ollie's Climb The String Release
(Climb The String with an neat Inverse Trapeze Release at the top.)
see Flash Movie Controls

source: Ollie Ashton

1) Have the diabolo spinning quite fast and do a regular Climb The String. (Clockwise Sun, point right stick down and to the left of diabolo, left stick up, and pull tight. Holding the verticle string off to your right side the diabolo should rise toward the left stick.)

Note: Normally during the Climb The String, you unwrap the axle with the left stick when the diabolo reaches the top by doing a counterclockwise circle around the diabolo with the left stick's end.

2) Instead; as you unwrap allow the left stick's end to hook the string as you circle the diabolo. Your stick still does a full counterclockwise circle around the diabolo. (This is like doing an Left Inverse Trapeze up high.)

3) The action of step 2 should force the diabolo to swing upward after the left stick stops.

4) At soon as the diabolo begins to rise, point the left stick at the diabolo (to the right) and amazing the diabolo will leave the string up and to the right. (You may need to lift up a bit with the left stick's end to guide the toss.)

5) Catch diabolo.

Climbing Trapeze
see Flash Movie Controls

1) First get up an incrediable amount of spin.

2) Do a Left Trapeze. See Beginning Trapezes if needed.

3) Now toss the diabolo horizontally to your right. As you toss, point your Left handstick to the right so the sting loops slip off. The diabolo should go far enough to the right to pass over the right stick. Note: You may want to make sure the diabolo doesn't bind on the string during this toss for the string has a full wrap on the axle.

4) After the diabolo clears the Right handstick, Move the Right handstick downward and the Left handstick above it. You are quickly positioning your sticks to do a string climb as in the Climb The String trick. The sting should be verticle with the daibolo just right of the Right handstick.

5) As quickly as you get the sticks in position, pull the string tight. Keep the tension even so the diabolo climbs to the left stick. Too much tension will slow the diabolo and waste its spin.

6) After reaching the left stick the diabolo will come down the other side of the string if you circle under the diabolo with the left stick's end. This movement must be done quickly as a counterclockwise circle all the way around to above the diabolo.

7) Actually the diabolo now falls down the vertical string toward the right stick. The right stick needs to be moved right slightly to catch the diabolo. After catching, even the sticks out to the normal position, and the diabolo should be on open string.

Ollie's Up/Down Elevator
(Climb The String up, down, then up again.)

source: Ollie Ashton

1) Build up an incredible amount of spin.

2) Do a throw and shoulder catch (like the beginning of the minetti whip) to the right.

3) Pull the string from the right, down (behind the diabolo) to the left.

4) Tighten the string and the diabolo will begin to climb.

5) As the diabolo reaches the top, loosen the wrap around it by putting the sticks a little closer to each other and the diabolo will drop (You can vary the speed by loosening the wrap more and less).

6) When the diabolo is near to the bottom of the string, tighten the wrap and the diabolo will once more climb the string!

7) Repeat the climbing\descending as long as you can.

8) Unwrap the diabolo in a counter-clockwise motion with the left hand.
